when is CBD not (just) CBD? the essential oils in holy cramp
When we created our pro-period CBD oil (the UK’s first, if ya didn’t already know) we wanted it to be more than just a CBD oil (lol at us saying “just”, as if CBD isn’t legitimately revolutionising our lives). We wanted it to be the ultimate period-perfecting elixir. A tall order, we know. And we’re not gonna pretend we’ve totally cracked period pain (cause, you know, we still live in a patriarchal hellscape in which scientists don’t deem ‘women’s issues’ worthy of much research) but we do reckon we’ve created something pretty special with our concoction of essential oils, hemp, and CBD.
First, a quick refresher on the actual CBD part for the new kids:
ohne’s holy cramp is made with 100mg broad-spectrum CBD extract. It’s also vegan, gluten free, and 100% organic.
Now time for the 411 on the essential oils…
Essential oils all boast their own therapeutic and healing properties independent of one another and the CBD itself. But they have also been found to interact with the CBD to help bind it to the cannabinoid receptors found all over the body and enhance its overall effect.
Luckily, our amazing CBD partner, Graces London, have been working with CBD and essential oils for more than 6 years, which means they really know their stuff when it comes to figuring out the best couplings and combos of various essential oils to create the ultimate period-and-chill secret weapon.
So, first up, we’ve got Hemp Seed oil. This is a natural superfood for the skin, because it contains a bunch of fatty acids which can help with dry skin and even skin irritations such as eczema.
Lavender oil, a longtime fan-favourite for helping people fall asleep, is also pretty adept at wrestling with emotional anxieties (which might be why lavender has become so associated with sleep – anxiety is a little shit when it comes to getting some shut-eye) and has been known to help with physical pain such as muscular aches.
Argan oil, comprised of fatty acids and phenolic compounds, helps keep your skin healthy and hydrated. It’s also a banging source of vitamin E – which you can thank for your newly silky hair, bright eyes, and fresh skin – as well as having antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Wave goodbye to your fading cramps, babe.
Evening Primrose oil is another one your skin is gonna love with its hydrating superpowers. It’s real talent though, is in its ability to help regulate and balance your hormones (show off, amirite?) which, as we all know, is a gift from god when it comes to the menstrual cycle and it’s ever-fluctuating hormonal cocktail.
Lemon oil, another superstar, has got your back for improved circulation, digestion, mental health, and immune system. It can also help relieve nausea, which can unfortunately be a side effect for many unlucky menstruators of particularly bad period pains.
And, last but abso-bloody-lutely not least, Lemongrass oil is antiseptic, antifungal, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and super hydrating. It’s also reportedly been used by people to ease headaches, anxieties, and nausea. Phew.
So, yeah, it’s safe to say holy cramp is much more than just CBD, making it even more bloody amazing for all your pesky period problems; fighting belly-based cramps, that impossible lower back pain, tender breasts, hormonal acne, anxiety and low mood (meet your maker, PMS-induced mood swings). And if you wanna find out more about CBD in general, we’ve got you covered. Oh BOY have we got you covered.
