Slaying your period: with Demi Colleen

Meet the brilliant Demi Colleen, a 26-year-old beauty and lifestyle influencer based in London who uses her platform to discuss everything from skincare to mental health to fashion. Scrolling through Demi's page on Instagram is like a breath of fresh air — her writing is honest, brazen and unabashedly authentic. What we admire most is her commitment to eliciting change and tackling difficult topics with total grace and veracity, be it mental health struggles, racism or the perils of fast fashion.
We caught up with demi to speak about dismantling period shame, her period rituals and why she's in love with our newest period pants.
First up, why do you think it's so important to destigmatize periods and speak openly about our experiences as people who bleed?
We often hear people saying “well of course, periods are normal!” but we also see people who bleed still feeling like they have to hide their tampons up their sleeve at work when going to the bathroom or people associating bleeding with being unclean. It terrified me growing up and when it finally happened I felt quite unprepared about what was happening, the options I had and what to expect. I really want to us to talk about it as openly as we would our skincare routines!
Tell us about your period toolkit, what mix of products do you use (tampons/pads/period pants)?
I like to use period pants the most, they are the most comfortable for me and I don’t have to think about it all day. However sometimes I opt for tampons depending on the activity. I also always make sure I have my ohne cbd oil, my hot water bottle, essential oils and a sleep mask (i sleep terribly during my period!)
What's your favourite style/colour combo from the og collection?
I adore the lilac bikini, I feel like it’s a style I haven’t seen before with period pants and the colour is so unusual for this type of underwear! We tend to avoid lighter colours during our period but colourful dressing brings me so much joy - I don’t want to take that away just because I'm bleeding!
In one word, what do ohne period pants feel like?
Like normal! they feel like normal underwear. They move with me, don’t dig in the sides and don’t give me unflattering lines with my clothes.
What's your favourite thing about the ohne period pants (i.e. comfort/stretch/colour/ease of use/etc.)
I adore the stretch. It’s something I think has always concerned me with period pants and I'm glad this was clearly a priority for ohne! The colours were what caught my eye though - I am obsessed!
Do you have any period rituals or hacks?
I like to clear my schedule as much as possible to minimise my stress, and I stretch. I don’t mean full on yoga, although I know that would help but I do little stretches throughout the day to ease any cramping. moving for pain relief is underrated!

What's your period persona (it can be anything — a cartoon character, celebrity, gif, anything)?

When do you feel your most fantastic?
When my to do list is complete and I can become a burrito with my duvet - it makes me feel fantastic inside.
