all about your pads

body-safe n’ planet-safe, just the way we like it.

ohne pads are body-safe and planet-safe. with the top sheet of an ohne pad made with 100% organic cotton, the entire pad is bio-base and 100% biodegradable - even the wrapper.

THE SUSTAINABILITY REPORT
ohne pads are as good for the planet as they are for your body - not a shred of plastic in sight — and they won’t be sticking around to haunt our great-great-great-grandkids, because ohne pads are biodegradable (did you know the average pad takes about 500 years to decompose? yike). the entire pad is 100% bio-based with a wrapper made from sustainable cornstarcH.
GOOD TO KNOW
  • 100% organic cotton topsheet
  • 100% biodegradable
  • wrapper made from a compostable biofilm
  • cruelty-free
  • toxin-free
  • plastic-free
  • 100% bio-based
  • ethically manufactured in the EU
  • zero plastic packaging
HOW TO USE

HOW TO USE: rip open your pad wrapper like it's your fave bar of chocolate. remove the pad from the biofilm wrapper and stick the sticky underside to your underwear. secure the pad in place by folding the wings down and sticking them to the underside of your knickers. change your pad every 3-4 hours or as often as needed for your flow - whichever happens first!

HOW TO DISPOSE OF YOUR PAD: don’t flush your pads. seriously, don’t do it. when you’ve finished with your pad, wrap it in the outer packaging of the next fresh pad you’re going to use and dispose of it in a bin.

all about your tampons

plastic-free periods are in.

ohne tampons are made of 100% organic cotton and are 100% biodegradable. available either naked (non-applicator) or with a cardboard applicator. our tampons are as good for your body as they are for the planet.

HOW TO USE Naked tampons

we’re going to rather egotistically assume you’re using ohne tampons. if you’re not, the details about the wrappers might be a little different, but the tampons themselves should function in basically the same way.

STEP 1: remove the tampon from its wrapper by holding the rounded end in one hand and peeling the centre strip before removing the wrapper from either end.

STEP 2: pull the tampon string downwards, giving it a little tug to make sure it’s secure!

STEP 3: ease your longest finger into the end of the tampon with the string. this may make the cotton flare slightly.

STEP 4: with your other hand, spread your labia – the folds of skin around your vagina – outwards.

STEP 5: gently push the tampon in – not vertically up, but angled slightly towards your lower back, as this is the direction of your vagina.

STEP 6: make sure your tampon feels comfortable inside you. if you can feel it (it might feel like a dull ache or like it’s pushing against the sides of your vagina) then gently push further or re-adjust until you can’t feel it. if you continue to feel discomfort, opt for a lighter absorbency.

STEP 7: leave the tampon in for 4-6 hours and repeat (always remember to take out the old tampon before inserting another one)!

HOW TO USE applicator tampons

we’re going to rather egotistically assume you’re using ohne tampons. if you’re not, the details about the wrappers might be a little different, but the tampons themselves should function in basically the same way.

STEP 1: remove the applicator tampon from its wrapper.

STEP 2: give the cardboard applicator a little twist to free it up from the ‘locked’ position (usually just a tiny hole in the two pieces of cardboard holding them together).

STEP 3: with your thumb and middle finger, hold the end of the outer applicator tube (the big bit with the tampon inside it) firmly using the anti-slip grip rings (little ridges around the middle of the length of the tampon applicator.

STEP 4: ensure that the string is hanging down through the lower part of the applicator.with your other hand, spread your labia – the folds of skin around your vagina – outwards.

STEP 5: place the rounded end of the applicator at the opening of your vagina with the tip angled towards your lower back. push it inside you until the part of the applicator you have a grip on reaches the opening of your vagina.

STEP 6: keeping a hold of the base of the outer tube, push the inner tube up as far as it will go inside the outer tube. this will push the tampon up through the outer tube and into your vagina. you will then be able to carefully remove both tubes.

STEP 7: the tampon should feel comfortable inside you. if you can feel it (it may feel like a dull ache or like it’s pushing against the sides of your vagina) then gently push further or re-adjust until you can’t feel it. if you continue to feel discomfort, opt for a lighter absorbency.

STEP 8: leave in for 4-6 hours and repeat (always remember to take out the old tampon before inserting another one)!

TOP TAMPON TIPS

tip 1: wash your hands before you put a tampon in. your vagina is a sensitive soul and likes to be kept clean, tyvm.

tip 2: you should change your tampon every 4-6 hours and definitely don’t leave it in for more than eight hours. don’t flush your tampons. seriously, don’t do it.

tip 3: always use the lowest absorbency type for your flow. it might be tempting to go for a super plus tampon that you can leave in for hours, but toxic shock syndrome, or TSS, is more common in people who use a higher tampon absorbency type than they need. this is because they are more likely to still be on the dry side when you remove them, which means that the little fibres can get left inside you when you pull the tampon out. although, cheeky plug, an organic tampon has never been linked to a case of tss. do with that information what you will…

tip 4: the materials mainstream tampons are made of can ‘energetically interact’ with the vaginal bacteria and produce TSS as a result. it doesn’t help that the vagina has the thinnest and most absorbent skin on your body, making it more vulnerable to absorbing toxins from foreign materials such as tampons (mainstream tampons, that is…)

HOW TO STAY SAFE

1: always use the tampon with the lowest absorbency required to meet your needs

2: mainstream tampon brands fill their tampons with synthetic materials and nasty chemicals, all to increase the absorbency. the result of this is women using absorbency levels that are higher than what they actually need.

3: if you remove your tampon after 6 hours and you can still see white fibres, you need to be using a lower absorbency

4: never use a tampon when you are not menstruating alternate between using tampons and pads or an alternative product of your choice

Symptoms of tss

the symptoms of TSS can occur very suddenly at any time during menstruation or shortly after. it can progress from flu-like symptoms to a serious illness that can be fatal. the symptoms of TSS are listed below, but please be aware that they may not all be present:

1: sudden fever, usually over 39c

2: nausea or vomiting

3: diarrhea

4: muscular aches or pain

5: severe flu-like feeling

6: headache

7: dizziness

8: sore throat

9: fainting or near fainting

10: rashes that look like sunburn (skin peeling may occur days later)

when to seek medical attention: if you have any of these symptoms and are using a tampon, remove it immediately and seek immediate medical attention. tell your doctor that you are menstruating and concerned about TSS. even if you have had TSS previously, you can still get it again. if you have had TSS or the warning signs of TSS in the past, consult your doctor before resuming with tampon use. have a chat to your doctor if you have any concerns or need further information on TSS.

working to unf*ck the planet 🌎

understanding your cycle means being able to live better, every damn day.

we like to think long-term, and that means not leaving our period products around on earth for generations after we’re gone ourselves. the average pad can take well over 500 years to decompose (some researchers reckon 800!), meaning they’ll probably outlive not only us, but our great-great-great grandkids too.

we’re in this for the planet, simple as that. ohne products are organic, toxin-free, biodegradable and plastic-free. ohne is certified by both Soil Association and GOTS, plus we’re animal lover-friendly too (read: vegan and cruelty-free).
